Moving Geo Databases to Smart Phones - An Approach for Offline Location-based Applications

چکیده
Mobile location-based services usually access large geo databases via a wireless network. Sometimes it is useful to store a certain amount of geo objects on the mobile device. In this paper we present an approach to store geo data in an embedded SQL database on smart phones. Besides the storage of geometries in SQL tables we have to provide an efficient geometric indexing mechanism. We used the Extended Split Index that successfully was used for large server geo databases. Due to the special characteristics of embedded smart phone databases we have to introduce an extension, the In-Memory Index. Our paper concludes with performance considerations.

An Indoor Positioning System Based on Wi-Fi for Energy Management in Smart Buildings
To offer indoor services to occupants in the context of smart buildings, it is necessary to consider information concerning to the identity and location of the occupants. This paper proposes an indoor positioning system (IPS) based on Wi-Fi fingerprint and K-nearest neighbors (KNN) method. The positioning of a mobile device (MD) using Wi-Fi technology involves online and offline phases. In this...

An increasing number of mobile phones feature embedded sensors such as GPS receivers, digital compasses or accelerometer-based tilt sensors. In this paper, we present an application framework for building spatially aware mobile applications – applications that visualize, process or exchange geospatial information – on mobile phones equipped with such sensors. The core component of the framework...

Recent FCC regulations on TV white spaces allow geo-location databases to be the sole source of spectrum information for White Space Devices (WSDs). Geo-location databases protect TV band incumbents by keeping track of TV transmitters and their protected service areas based on their location, transmission parameters and sophisticated propagation models. In this article, we argue that keeping tr...
